Maintenance payments - am I liable?

Just wondering if anyone else has experience of this and what happened to them.

Situation- married 10 yrs. living apart 18mth. equal split of assets and pensions (each have ~£280k assets and ~£400k pension pots) no children. both mid-50s.

Divorce proceedings are underway. just awaiting decree nisi. her solicitor has enquired about "spousal maintenance". What are my chances? I work, she has a part-time job.

Depends how much you earn, how much she earns, what her earning capacity is, why she only works part time etc.

Thanks for the reply David.
I believe she only works part time because she simply wants to just work part time, it's not through lack of ability.
It sounds like I'll be liable to a certain amount, from your wording here. I was curious what other readers may have experienced too.

You would be unwise to rely upon 'sounds like'. Facts are what matter and, in particular, figures. So long as your question is based on generalities rather than solid facts it is incapable of meaningful answer. And that goes for anyone else's two ha'p'orth.
