Moving abroad

I am currently in the middle of divorce proceedings (only recently filed) and I am contemplating moving out of the UK for work reasons.

Would this have any good or bad impact on divorce or financial settlement? Would it strengthen any spouse claim on property in the UK if I am not staying in it?

Thanks

It should have no impact whatsoever if the move is for bona fide reasons. It would be rather different if it was not - such as an attempt to thwart the jurisdiction of the court.

Moving out of the matrimonial home before financial issues are formally settled can sometimes be prejudicial but that very much depends upon the figures. For instance, if the matrimonial home has no significant equity it is likely to make no difference. Similarly if the amount of equity is of such high value that it is obvious the property will be sold to provide for both parties and that it would be unfair for one spouse to retain the property indefinitely.

Thanks Terry.

It is for professional reasons and the matrimonial home is occupied by myself only, it does have a dcent equity.
