My ex-wife’s new partner

Hi – I have a situation I hope someone can help with.

I’ve been married to my wife for 8 years and we have a son (9) and daughter (12). We separated amicably a few months ago (the kids live with her but are with me usually 2-3 nights a week). We split our assets 50/50 so she can afford to rent a decent property, and I pay a significant amount of child maintenance. We've not actually divorced yet but are planning to asap.

Now she has a new man who has no assets, lives on benefits and has two sons of similar ages to my children. I’m pretty sure she's planning to move him in and Im concerned that he will bleed my wife dry (he has prior form for financial incompetence) and subsequently damage the wellbeing and living standards of my kids. I am also concerned that my daughter will grow up in a house with three teenage boys and a man, none of whom she is blood related to.

So far, things have been civil with my wife and I’d like to keep it that way if possible, but the thought of this guy leaching off her makes me sick with anger.

Is there anything I can do?

Many thanks in advance.

No. Adults are free to make their own mistakes and your wife will not thank you for interfering in her life.

The marriage is obviously over. You would be wise to seek a divorce sooner rather than later and formally settle the financial issues arising from that marriage once for all. Then you will both be able to get on with the rest of your lives.
