Wait time after judge review!

Wait time after judge review!

My divorce seems to be taking forever!!!

The judge was due to review the case including the financial order on June 21st. We were hoping he/she would finally sign it off and issue the decree absolute etc!

However here we are a month later and we’ve heard nothing!!!

Does anyone know how long we will have to wait to hear from Bury st. Edmunds with the decision!

Thank you

Judges may well consider papers on, say, 21st June but what then happens is that it goes to the court office to draw up and issue. That office stuff can take ages - especially in a court like Bury St Edmunds and in courts where almost everyone is 'working from home'.

For what it is worth a judge does not issue decree absolute. A separate application has to be made for decree absolute and typically the wait between making that application and getting the decree absolute is quite short.

Well they finally replied with a letter requesting information that they’ve already had!!!

It took them a month to correspond asking for info!

The slowness of their response is ridiculous and it seems Bury St Edmunds has no idea what they’re doing!
What’s more they have no appreciation for the stress and upset they are causing by their inefficiency! Grrrr!

Very frustrating!

It is worse than that. There is no evidence they actually care and, so far as I can see, no-one ever has to answer for hopeless inefficiency. Judges may be very conscientious but they can only deal with the papers the court staff put before them and orders take as long as the court staff take to issue them.

You are absolutely right David! The inefficiency is farcical!
They’ve asked for info they’ve already received twice now!!!
An absolute joke!

I had a similar experience (many years ago - pre Covid). At final hearing the judge said she was going on leave in 3 days and would try to get her decision written before she left. She clearly didn't - about 6 weeks later we got a short, poorly written order that was vague and inconsistent. She had clearly forgotten parts of the case as there were mistakes in the order.

At this point the two barristers got involved and spent the next 3 months working together to draft a better order that aligned to the principles the judge put in her order. To their credit the barristers did a great job at this, but in total it was about 5 months until we had a court order we could use!
